What a fantastic event our annual tour turned out to be! We had a very nerve wrecking day on Saturday as the wind and rain beat down we got all our pointer signs up marking our routes in the hope it would clear up, and clear up it did, a lovely Sunday morning with only a slight wind the cyclists poured into Glenties to take on the challenges set out by the club. With 175 signing on to do the various routes it was set to be a great day on the bike.
The groups headed of together with the 120k group leading the way keeping it controlled until the bottom of Glengesh where the group naturally split up with 4 riders going of the front closely followed by another bunch which included Youth Olympian Ciara Doogan, 3 of the first 4 stayed away for the rest of the day with Mark McClure from Four Masters coming home first followed by Myles Connor of North Pole and then our to our own John Boyle finishing third.
All cyclists got around safely with only a few minor incidents; the soup and sandwiches mended any grazed knees or damaged pride.
Without naming individuals we must pass on our sincere thanks to, first and foremost every one of the 175 cyclists that turned out on the day to push themselves to complete their chosen cycle, also to our Marshals who never let us down and provide top class safety to all the routes and never complain or grumble when asked to help out.
Thanks to the Highlands Hotel and the Comprehensive school for the use of the ballroom & the school for the refreshments and sign-on. Thanks to Terence at the Blue Haven and also Terence at Inver Spar for providing the Water Stops on the longer routes.
Last and by no means least to our Club members (Mostly the Ladies!!!) who sorted the refreshments in the hotel, this is a tough job especially with the large number that turned up this year but they got everyone fed and watered after a tough day in the saddle! THANKS LADIES!!!! 🙂
Thanks to everyone for coming to support, See you on the road in 2014!
